Welcome to the Hanash Lab
Dr. Sam Hanash joined the faculty at the
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center as a Full Member in August of
2004. His prior position was as a full professor at the
University of Michigan.
Sam was recruited to be the Program Head for a developing program,
“Molecular Diagnostics," which will focus on biomarker discovery for
the early detection of cancer. Sam Hanash has been a
leader in protocol development and execution in the field of
proteomics for over over 15 years.
The goal of Dr. Hanash’s research program at the Hutchinson Center is to identify trace proteins called “markers” that are secreted into the blood by tumors, or present in cells or tissues, and could be used for early detection and diagnosis of lung, liver, pancreatic and other cancers. Molecular Diagnostics is a multi-disciplinary program that utilizes proteomics, genomics, and bioinformatics. This combination of approaches is expected to lead to highly sensitive early cancer-detection tests, a major goal of the Fred Hutch’s Early Detection Initiative.
